A School for Life
SOKOLA is a not-for-profit organisation providing education for remote Indigenous peoples who are unable to access formal education due to geographic and cultural obstacles. The education provided through SOKOLA is aimed at providing the skills required to manage the many problems Indigenous and marginalised communities are faced with due to increasing pressures from the outside world.
WHAT DOES SOKOLA DO?
SOKOLA’s volunteers live with and participate in the every day life of the communities they serve in order to understand the specific needs of both the children and the wider community.
SOKOLA assists communities in their efforts to re-establish their lives post natural disaster. We also work with children from communities whom have experienced natural disasters in order to help them to better understand the situation and its consequences.
SOKOLA has reached a dozen communities across the Indonesian archipelago, bringing literacy to more than 10,000 individuals, both children and adults.
